Team Building in Chicago
The Chicago teams we work with aren’t looking for another ice breaker.
They’re looking for better communication, stronger trust, and a more effective way to work together.
Chicago teams we work with aren’t looking for another ice breaker. They’re looking for better communication, stronger trust, and a more effective way to work together.
Whether you’re gathering for a team-building session, a department offsite, or a leadership retreat, the time needs to be genuinely worthwhile. When teams step away from their day-to-day, they’re not just looking to be entertained. They’re trying to improve how they work together.
Activities like scavenger hunts, trivia contests, or game shows can be fun. But because they rely on competition, they often divide people, reward the loudest voices, or leave many participants on the sidelines.
Make Believe Works designs creative, psychologically safe team-building workshops for teams gathering across the Chicago area. Our experiences are fun, playful, and deeply human, but purpose-built to help teams build trust, strengthen connection, and have conversations that carry forward into real work.
Our workshops are non-competitive by design. They bring people together.
Groups: 5–500 · Duration: 60 minutes to half-day · Formats: In-person, hybrid, or remote
Areas served: Greater Chicago Area (including the Loop, River North, West Loop/Fulton Market, Wicker Park, Lincoln Park, and nearby neighborhoods)
Corporate Team Building In Chicago
Our workshops are designed for teams doing real work together — from siloed departments to cross-functional groups navigating growth, change, or alignment.
Whether your team is based in Chicago or traveling in for an offsite, we’ll help you use the time well. Teams laugh, create, and experiment together, but always in ways that reinforce trust, empathy, and shared purpose.
“If you're trying to change the culture within your organization, there's only so much you can do with the set of people that have been steeped in your current culture. It's definitely worth every penny to bring in that inspiration and show what's possible. You don't know the power of creating the space for this kind of creative energy and fusion until you're doing it on a regular basis.”

What Makes Our Team Building Approach Different
Effective team building creates psychological safety, encourages honest participation, and helps people understand one another beyond their roles.
Most team-building activities focus on competition, performance, or surface-level fun. Those approaches may feel energizing in the moment, but they often reward the loudest voices and fade quickly once the event ends.
Our experiences are non-competitive and talent-agnostic by design. Everyone contributes without feeling forced. People feel safe lowering their guard, sharing openly, and gaining new insight into one another.
The result is connection that lasts beyond the day itself.
Our workshops are especially well-suited for:
Team-building sessions for departments and cross-functional groups
Department offsites and planning meetings
Leadership offsites and executive retreats
Company-wide gatherings and annual meetings
Teams navigating growth, change, or re-organization
Chicago Offsites and Corporate Retreats
Offsites are often inflection points. They’re moments to reset priorities, rebuild trust, and align around what matters next.
Whether you’re meeting in the Loop, the West Loop, or River North, our workshops fit seamlessly into offsite agendas. Teams get vulnerable without feeling exposed, take creative risks without fear, and experience the joy of making one another successful.
Every session is tailored to your goals, group size, and context, and facilitated with warmth, structure, and care.

Meetings, Celebrations, and Culture-Building Gatherings in Chicago
These moments are rare chances to strengthen trust and shared momentum, not just fill time or entertain.
Quarterly meetings, department gatherings, and company celebrations are opportunities to reinforce how teams work together. Our workshops help groups use that time well by building emotional muscle memory and meaningful connection.
From end-of-year celebrations to milestone moments, we design experiences that honor what teams have achieved while strengthening the bonds that fuel what comes next.
Our expert facilitators use deceptively simple creative activities to get people laughing, sharing, and connecting in ways that actually change how teams work together.
Chicago Team Building FAQ
Do you run team-building events across Chicago?
Yes. We regularly facilitate sessions throughout Chicago, including the Loop, West Loop, River North, Fulton Market, Lincoln Park, and surrounding neighborhoods.
What group sizes do you support?
From small teams to large all-hands gatherings. Share your headcount and goals, and we’ll recommend the right format.
How long are the sessions?
Most workshops run 60 minutes to half-day sessions. For offsites, we can extend or stack activities to fit your agenda.
Do you support hybrid or remote teams?
Yes. We offer activities that work for fully in-person, hybrid, or remote teams. Many Chicago-based organizations use a mix of formats depending on who can attend in person.
How far in advance should we book?
We recommend booking 2–4 weeks in advance for best availability, though we’ve also facilitated last-minute and next-day sessions when schedules require it.
Do you provide food or alcohol? Nope. We only focus on what we’re good at: designing and facilitating the team-building experience itself. But this is Chicago - there are so many great options!
Where do events take place?
We come to you. We regularly work in offices, offsite venues, conference spaces, and retreat locations across Chicago. Make Believe Works is a team building company, not a venue or marketplace.
Are your workshops facilitated or self-guided?
All Make Believe Works sessions are professionally facilitated. We do not offer self-guided activities, kits, or drop-in experiences.
What does team building in Chicago cost?
Pricing depends on the activities you choose, your group size, and session length. We’re typically more of an investment than a scavenger hunt, but clients tell us the impact is worth it. We also work with schools, startups, and nonprofits, so reach out and let’s talk.
Can you tailor a session to our goals or theme?
Yes. We regularly customize prompts, pacing, and debriefs to support goals like trust-building, collaboration, onboarding, creativity, or alignment during times of change.
What makes your team-building workshops different from typical activities? Most team-building activities focus on competition, performance, or forced fun. Our workshops are designed differently. They are non-competitive, psychologically safe, and thoughtfully facilitated so people can participate at their own comfort level. The goal isn’t entertainment for its own sake — it’s building real trust, connection, and momentum that carries back into everyday work.
Are your workshops a good fit for introverts or quieter team members? Yes. Our workshops are designed so everyone can participate without being put on the spot. Activities are structured, non-competitive, and talent-agnostic, which means everyone is heard — not just the loudest or fastest. Introverts often tell us they feel more comfortable and more genuinely included than in traditional team-building activities.
We’d love to help your team connect and thrive. Tell us about your event or goals and let’s make a plan.
